Why Occupational Health Matters

Staff absence from work costs the UK economy £13.2 billion. The average employee takes almost seven days a year absence due to sickness (CBI survey 2008) and the CIPD suggests that sickness costs an average of £666 per employee, per year.

Therefore, every day off costs approximately £100 per day. Approximately 70% of all sickness absence is due to psychological ill health or musculoskeletal disorders. The primary focus of occupational health teams is to keep people well at work – both physically and mentally.

How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives so it is important to inspire each other and  learn together.

‘It is neither wealth nor splendour; but tranquility and occupation which give you happiness.’ – Thomas Jefferson

Moreover, it is so important that we both support and listen to each other.

‘Be an encourager – the world has enough critics already.’ – Dave Willis
